Mission Statement

JAYU is a registered Canadian charity and a leader in the space where the arts and human rights intersect. We believe strongly that the arts provide the strongest platform to share human rights stories. The arts can be used to educate, to build empathy, to heal, to forge community and to inspire the kinds of conversations necessary to reimagine a more just and equitable world.

About This Cause

Since its founding in 2012 JAYU has screen over 80 films to over 6000 audience members and facilitated life changing arts programming for over 560 equity seeking youth. Your generosity supports year round programming: 1. iAM program: a project that connects professional photographers and storytellers with equity-seeking youth with the aim of empowering them through the arts. 2. Last Tuesdays: quarterly premiere film screenings throughout the year that draw attention to some of our world's most pressing and important stories. 3. Human Rights Film Festival: our annual Human Rights Film Festival takes place at the prestigious Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema in the heart of Toronto each December during human rights month. 4. The Hum Podcast: a bi-weekly podcast that cuts straight to the heart of human rights stories. Raw, honest and uncensored, from the people who have lived them first-hand.
