Mission Statement

The Institute catalyzes research and action to advance the education and success of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields through the following activities: 1. Awarding scholarships, bursaries and grants for students wishing to study in one of the STEM fields of study or students wishing to study issues of women and minorities in STEM. 2. Create and maintain an online resource centre (hub) and database on information concerning education in STEM fields. 3. Promote the contributions of past and present women (especially BIPOC* women) in STEM to increase the visibility of role models. 4. Foster and disseminate research concerning STEM fields as both an educational and career choice.

About This Cause

The Institute was created in 2007 under the name of INWES-Education and Research Institute. The organisation name was changed in 2019 for The Canadian Institute for Women in Engineering and Sciences (CIWES). The Institute was incorporated the 29th of November 2007 under the Canada Corporations Act. It was designated as a Charitable Organization on the 28th of February 2008. Its activities are conducted through a board of directors and committees : - Steering committee on Archives - Research committee - Communication committee - Fundraising committee - Education committee - Nomination committee - Executive committee
