Mission Statement

Our mission at the Unlocking Potential (UP) Foundation is to ensure the long-term sustainability of quality programs that stabilize and improve mental health, and strengthen family functioning in order to help everyone realize the power of human connection.

About This Cause

Founded in 2009, the Unlocking Potential (UP) Foundation raises funds and awareness for the programs offered by Kindred Connections Society (Kindred). Kindred has served vulnerable populations in the Calgary area for over 65 years. UP works to ensure the sustainability of quality programs that stabilize and improve mental health, and strengthen family functioning in order to help everyone realize the power of human connection. UP supports programs that reduce social isolation by providing supports and preventative programs to vulnerable Calgarians experiencing, or likely to experience, barriers to connection: relationship and family challenges, emotional or mental health challenges, early parenthood and lone parenthood, a past or current experience of abuse and/or trauma, lack of interpersonal and social skills, limited social supports, and other root causes of disconnection associated with low parent/child attachment in early childhood. The programs' intended impact is to treat each person served as unique, recognizing the interplay between 3 critical conditions for connection: strong relationships between children and caregivers, healing for and from ruptured relationships, and capacity and confidence in relationship with self and others.
