About This Cause
Mom2Mom improves outcomes for children in poverty by supporting their moms. We know that when moms thrive, children thrive, and we work to support low-income mothers with the mental, emotional, and practical help they need to raise healthy, confident children. The majority of the 68 moms we currently serve in Vancouver are single moms from generations of poverty, many of whom were themselves raise in foster care without connection to a loving parent or healthy role models from which to learn. Our program begins with bringing isolated, low-income moms (referred to us through the school system) into stable, caring relationships with dedicated volunteers. Through the support of this female ally and friend, moms feel less alone and able to seek advice, practical help, and receive encouragement for their strength in the face of so many challenges. Mom2Mom then helps directly support and resource basic family needs, and offers social events that include education, skills training, parenting support, and personal development opportunities. Mom2Mom’s programming has seen outstanding results in a short time. In 2018, -86% of participant moms reported seeing an increase in positive behaviours from their children since joining Mom2Mom -75% of participant moms reported seeing an improvement in their child’s outcomes at school since joining Mom2Mom “At first, the grocery support they provide is what appealed to me most. Even using the food bank, I worried every month about running out of food for Lukus. Then I got to know my Mom2Mom mentors. They encouraged and supported me, and offered guidance when I felt lost.
