Mission Statement

We are a technology reuse social enterprise. We provide low-cost computers, offer green solutions to unwanted and end-of-life technology, and work with partners to increase digital inclusion in our city.

About This Cause

Across North America, passionate people help out at their community Free Geek organization to refurbish discarded computers and make them useful tools again for people who need them. In the process of this, people build community, gain skills, and help the planet. Free Geek Toronto is a technology reuse not-for-profit organization that uses unwanted electronics/computers to increase access to technology, offer employment and training opportunities, and reduce the environmental impact of technology. A circular economy focuses on regeneration, reusing, and recycling. These core values to Free Geek’s mission of improving e-waste management. As an e-waste refurbisher and active advocate for the circular economy, Free Geek is doing its utmost to help minimize negative impacts on the environment. We take in unwanted technology, and through an exhaustive process, are able to determine what can be reused and what has to be recycled. We focus on reuse as it decreases the amount of waste created while also giving access to technology for those who were previously unavailable at an affordable cost. Access to hardware, along with connectivity, is the first step to creating a digitally inclusive society, where technology is demystified. Free Geek also operates as an employment social enterprise, using our technology reuse operations as an opportunity to offer a supportive environment for people to learn, grow, and gain experience in the computer refurbishment business.
