About This Cause

Youth Employment Services YES is an employment agency that helps low-income and vulnerable youth age 15-29 in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond to find and maintain employment. Through our programs and services, youth develop new skills, gain confidence and motivation, and identify and pursue their goals. YES provides cutting edge, timely and relevant job readiness training to our youth. Our programming is designed to prepare youth for the world of work and gain the skills and confidence needed to succeed. As a leader in providing job readiness, employment and empowerment programming, we have continued to work on the frontlines helping youth face these unprecedented challenges. Pivoting quickly at the start of the pandemic, we provide safe and innovative virtual career counseling, mental health programming, up-skilling, job development, job readiness, career development, job attainment, job maintenance and personal management, basic needs support, and programming with youth, via phone, email and webinars, and through our online programming platform. Our solutions include: Teaching youth in-demand skills: We have launched new programming which will prepare youth for a drastically shifting workforce. With technology, changing demographics and globalization altering the types of jobs available and the skills required for them, we need to ensure that young people are provided with the ability to develop the knowledge, values and a diverse range of critical thinking, communication and information management skills for the digital age in order to give them a competitive edge in the labour market. Our technology programs offer disadvantaged young people the opportunity to acquire in-demand skills such as Amazon Web Services Cloud certification, training in future skills, access to mentors, and work experience. We have also developed partnerships with IBM and SAS to provide young people with access to thousands of free online workshops, many of which offer the opportunity to gain micro-credentials and badges. Mental Health Support: Acknowledging and addressing the growing mental health crisis, we have increased our mental health supports and programming. Working with a qualified instructor, we have introduced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to support our most vulnerable youth through this crisis. Launched on a small scale in 2020, the results have been very positive to date with 80% of recent participants stating that they would often or always use the information provided in their daily lives and 93% stating that they feel more confident about looking for work. And thanks to our new partnership with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion, youth can access webinars on topics such as Resiliency, Diversity & Inclusion, and Anti-Racism. Mentorship: In times of distress, youth need a caring adult that they can turn to, to help them make sense of the abrupt changes to their livelihood and to keep them connected to professional networks. YES continues to leverage its Mentorship Hub to connect youth with industry leaders virtually, through email and through telephone, so that they do not feel isolated in a time of social distance and to keep them connected to their industry. Futureproofing youth against augmentation and automation: Acknowledging the threat that automation and augmentation posed for our youth, YES has developed a specialized suite of Future Skills curriculum. Focused on those soft skills that experts say will be in most demand, our new curriculum includes topics such as Growth Mindset, Motivation and Goal Setting, Fostering Collaboration and Connection, and Cultivating Metacognition YES has over 20 innovative programs and services across Toronto and operates a National Program working with partners across Canada: https://www.yes.on.ca/programs-and-services/ As a recognized leader in the employment and youth sector, YES is regularly called upon to provide commentary in press articles.
