Mission Statement
CanU serves as a platform for hope, confidence and action in Manitoba youth by connecting community institutions in collectively transformative ways; initiating partnerships between these groups by offering mentorship, learning and leadership experiences to underserved youth with great potential. CanU works virtually, in-school, after-school, on-campus and in the community, serving hundreds of youth and volunteers from 65 +schools and post-secondary institutions in Manitoba. CanU addresses systemic social issues through comprehensive experiences embedding four positive psychological capacities; hope, confidence, resiliency and optimism. Built upon mutually beneficial and collectively transformative partnerships with a variety of complementary friends and stakeholders, CanU inspires youth to grow in hope and confidence, believing that the possibilities for that child (and then their families) are limitless. CanU works with children and youth from priority neighbourhoods and demographics with a dignity-reinforcing approach and is committed to inspiring hope and confidence in the leaders of tomorrow. CanU's model provides post-secondary students with opportunities to hone their personal and professional learning and leadership skills in a community service context by designing, leading and mentoring in learning experiences in their chosen fields of studies. Thus, two often separate and distinct worlds are simultaneously brought together to reduce stigma and fear, challenge poorly informed and negative stereotypes and promote truth and reconciliation.
About This Cause
We are a registered charity that works with students in grades 5-12, who may not have adequate opportunities or resources but show great desire, promise and potential. We seek to provide them with different learning experiences to help promote a healthy lifestyle, build their confidence and prepare them to embark on journeys of their own.
