Mission Statement
Business in the Streets helps young people thrive in an ever-changing economy by developing their entrepreneurial capacity through hands-on, practical business training, peer mentorship, and microfinancing support. We are currently on a mission to support the transformation of 1,000 young people along their entrepreneurial journey before the end of 2022.
About This Cause
Business in the Streets (BITS) began in 2011 after the Canadian Census highlighted Toronto as having the country’s highest youth unemployment rate (24%). Led by George Brown College Professor, Mark Simpson, students launched Youth Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities (YCEO), a program that sought to make entrepreneurship possible for those who could not afford a business education. BITS programs employ an innovative approach to our programs, ensuring participants have access to the information, people, and resources required to test, validate, and act on their creative ideas. Today, BITS has served over 700 youth, provided over $150,000 in professional and business development, engaged 150 Peer Mentors, and partnered with great institutions such as the City of Toronto, Alterna Savings, and Toronto Community Housing.
