Mission Statement
Tirgan Mandate: A. To advance the public’s appreciation of Iranian arts, culture and cultural heritage by holding multi-disciplinary arts and culture festivals containing performances and presentations in the art forms of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and literature; B. To advance the education of the public by holding educational workshops and seminars relating to Iranian arts, culture and cultural heritage; and C. To do all such things as are ancillary and incidental to the attainment of the above charitable purposes.
About This Cause
The Iranian-Canadian Centre for Art and Culture (ICCAC) is an organization that uses art and culture to promote cross-cultural dialogue and understanding between the Iranian community and the community at large, to raise cultural awareness among Iranian-Canadians especially kids and youth and to contribute to the diverse cultural mosaic of Canadian society. ICCAC existed as an incorporated non-profit since 2007 and was registered as a Canadian charity in May 2017. Our main programs include two multidisciplinary art and culture festivals: the biennial Tirgan festival taking place at the Harbourfront Centre since 2008 and the annual Nowruz festival taking place at the Toronto Centre for the Arts since 2017. Tirgan showcases more than 120 performances and workshops with 200 participating artists. The number of visitors has grown from 25,000 to over 150,000 in 2017. Nowruz showcases over 40 performances and workshops with about 100 participating artists. The number of visitors has grown from 10,000 to 15,000 in 2018. ICCAC's programming is geared toward showcasing local and non-local professional and emerging artists of diverse backgrounds, celebrating through music, dance, theatre, cinema, literature, visual arts, workshops, panel discussions and lectures with 80% of activities being offered free of charge. The organization has 2 full-time and 3 seasonal paid staff whom are assisted by more than 400 volunteers as well as a hands-on CEO and a Board of Directors.
