About This Cause

Your donations make a direct impact on our programming. In our pioneering nationwide Flash Forward Incubator program (more below) 78% of programming helps underserved communities. When we hold silent auctions, 100% goes back to the schools for art supplies. Our unique arts programs for emerging artists and high school students allows us to foster the future talent in Canada coast to coast. Creating this empowerment allows young people to elevate their abilities for a future in the arts as cultural producers within and beyond their communities. By focusing on the early output of future practitioners, Magenta is committed to cultivating the next generation of artists through producing and exhibiting work that will potentially inform a lifelong practice. Magenta has continued to evolve by finding new and innovative ways to connect artists to the global arts world through digital technologies. Our work is guided by four strategic pillars: Exhibitions & Events, Learning & Outreach, Print & Digital Publications, and Community & Partnerships. Through ongoing mentorship, emerging artists are coached through the process of writing a project proposal, engaging in critical discussion to develop and refine their work, writing an artist statement, and preparing their work for presentation. Unique to this program is the opportunity for emerging artists to work closely with professionals in the field. From professional artists to arts organizations and festival directors, emerging artists gain valuable access and insight from industry insiders. The Incubator Program offers youth interested in pursuing the arts an opportunity to experience what it is like to develop a work for public presentation in response to a curatorial call. Developed by professional artists, the Incubator Program distilled four key areas common to an artist’s experience in the development and dissemination of their work. This program offers real-world skills that are transferable across artistic disciplines. As a program that requires the ongoing development of a project, and accountability through a supportive mentorship environment, the program cultivates critical thinking, commitment, creativity, time-management, and problem-solving. At the end of the program, youth leave with a gallery show to add to their resume, a working artist statement that can be used for other projects, and a publication. Many of our alumni have used their experiences in the Incubator Program to support their applications to post-secondary institutions and to solicit funding in the form of scholarships, grants and residencies. While working with mentors and professionals, youth learn valuable communication skills: the ability to express themselves and their ideas with clarity, and to voice their thoughts and ideas. Diversity and Inclusion - Education for all The Incubator Program practices inclusion of all including but not limited to: ethnicity, language, race, ability, sex, sexual or gender identity, sexual orientation, family status, income, immigrant or refugee status, nationality, place of birth, generational status, and native status. Under the Magenta umbrella, there is something for everyone to enjoy and be inspired by.The Magenta Foundation is based in Toronto, Ontario — our Incubator Program is currently implemented nationwide.
