About This Cause

Phoenix Education Foundation is an Alberta-accredited private non-profit independent school that works with parents committed to homeschooling in Calgary and surrounding communities. Phoenix engages students from Kindergarten to Grade 9 in either parent-directed or school-directed programming to fulfill the Alberta Education curriculum, using creative approaches and distinctive programs. Phoenix has a breakfast program and CARE program that helps our families with immediate needs and mental health supports. Mental health is a huge part of our CARE program that we created in response to the Safe and Caring legislation enacted by our provincial government several years ago. For the 2018-2019 school year, we had 81 referrals to this program. Approximately 1/3 of these were for counselling services. Without the CARE support, low income families will have to pay out of pocket for these services for our students. The funds would be used directly for Mental Health supports and services, either a Psychologist/psychiatrist or Counsellor. If we can impact our students in this way, they are able to concentrate on being a successful student and continue lifelong learning.
