About This Cause

Parkland Crossing is the operating name for the mission of the Dauphin Church of Christ. Parkland Crossing is a diverse, multi use facility that is transforming a former residential school into an active community center. The three main components are affordable housing, the Wardrobe clothing room, and a partnership with the Dauphin and District Community Foodbank. Food, clothing, and shelter are the three basic needs. There are currently 20 apartments ranging from bachelor suite to 4 bedroom units which all rents are within Province of Manitoba guidelines for affordability. There are also 34 dormitory rooms, 10 ladies' and 24 men's, for housing single adults. The Wardrobe clothing room receives donations from our community that are given away for free. The room is open Monday to Friday from 900 AM til 100 PM for volunteers to help sort donations and clients to gather the items they need. Many of the clients are also volunteers. The Wardrobe averages 2500 pounds of clothes donated each month. The Dauphin and District Community Foodbank is a separate organization with its own board. They are an excellent partner and tenant for the facility. Food is distributed on a biweekly schedule, and clients are eligible to come once a month. A variety of churches provide a supper on these evenings. Attendance ranges from 60 to 100 people normally, but the Christmas banquet can be as large as 225. Other features of the facility include the Manitoba Mudrun Kidzone, a gymnasium, classrooms, a boxing club, and two greenhouses. Classes on container gardening, herb gardens, and food preparations are expanding.
