Mission Statement
The Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists, in North Vancouver, was founded in 2002 by the visionary team at the North Vancouver School District and Artists for Kids to build an endowment fund to provide art enrichment opportunities for the children of British Columbia. Since then the Smith Foundation has expanded to encompass the curation of exhibitions and the development of public programs of the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art, a gallery dedicated to young audiences.
About This Cause
We achieve our mission in three ways. We fund, we curate, and we engage. The Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists established a permanent endowment fund whose increasing annual revenues ensure the success and viability of Artists for Kids and their programs and support the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art in perpetuity. The Vancouver Foundation, Canada's largest community foundation, manages our endowment. Our goal is to reach $5 million by 2019, to sustain our mission well into the future. The Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art is a space where education is seen not as an after-thought to curation, but as the purpose of each step we take. To ensure this the Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists and Artists for Kids work collaboratively to program the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art. Essential to all of our exhibitions is our unique approach to curation and programming. We provide spaces for contemporary Canadian art to engage, amaze, and inspire our communities. We develop and deliver exceptional programming for all our major exhibitions, to connect our audience with the art, beyond the exhibition. Programming includes panel discussions, artist talks, workshops and performances, family days, and docent tours.
