CENTRE FOR FAMILY LITERACY SOCIETY OF ALBERTA

Mission Statement

It’s never too early! Children who begin life in a learning environment are more likely to succeed in school and in life. Parents are their children’s first teachers. The Centre provides parents with the tools they need to support their children’s early language and literacy development, setting them up for a lifetime of learning and discovery. It’s never too late! We also support adult learners on their journey, providing a safe environment where they can learn in a community of shared experiences, once again building on strengths and meeting the individual needs of those learners.

About This Cause

Our focus is to assist families in their attempts to improve their literacy skills by: Developing and delivering family and adult literacy programs in the Capital region; Providing training to family literacy professionals in Alberta and across the country; Serving as an information and program resource to family literacy professionals in Alberta; Raising awareness about the importance of literacy and its impact on individuals, families and communities; Acting as a catalyst for inter-agency support for families; Serving as the location for intensive and long term research on the effectiveness of family literacy programs as educational approach; Being a centre for innovation in which new ideas about learning and education can be piloted and implemented.
