Mission Statement

The Sandra Schmirler Foundation is a registered national charity established in honour of Sandra Schmirler. Recognizing that "Champions Start Small", the Foundation raises and donates funds to hospital foundations across Canada to purchase state-of-the-art life-saving equipment for the care of premature and critically ill babies.

About This Cause

The Sandra Schmirler Foundation was created in January 2001 as a legacy to three-time world curling champion and Olympic gold medalist Sandra Schmirler, in recognition and celebration of her love of family. This was a collaborative effort between Curling Canada, Scott Paper Limited (now Kruger Products Limited and founding sponsor of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts), Sandra’s family, friends and teammates. The Sandra Schmirler Foundation has granted millions of dollars to over 40 hospitals across Canada to assist newborns and babies at risk through the purchase of life-saving equipment. Since 2013, the Foundation has also provided 6 scholarships each year to junior curlers. The organization continues to raise funds to save the lives of babies born premature and critically ill. Funds have been raised in every province in Canada and the Foundation has donated back to Canadians in the same manner. The Foundation endeavors to continue to grow its support from the curling community and beyond, to continue raising funds for this worthy cause and to build upon Sandra’s legacy.
