Mission Statement

The Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) is a celebration of FILM! Each autumn, we present a cinematic smorgasbord which includes more than 150 independent, contemporary films from around the world, a bold dash of filmmaker parties and Galas, sprinkles of short films with lunch, and splashes of red carpet!

About This Cause

In 1999, the Edmonton International Film Festival Society (EIFFS) was established, specifically to present an annual celebration of film, and film culture. At that time, Edmonton was home to the 'Local Heroes Film Festival' which was presented with the support of the National Screen Institute (NSI), however that festival was moved to Winnipeg in 1998, prompting a desire in Edmonton to create EIFF. Flash forward to 2017. EIFF is now an OSCAR Qualifying Film Festival. Fewer than 100 film festivals worldwide achieve this honour! 2017 is our third consecutive year as MovieMaker Magazine's 'Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee'. Film submissions to our festival number more than 4,000 per year and all FIVE (5) of the 2017 OSCAR Nominated films in the Foreign Language category screened at EIFF, as did the Best Picture -- MOONLIGHT. Or wait. Was it LA LA LAND? We're kidding, of course.
