Mission Statement

NOW's Mission: NOW Canada inspires change by providing a client-centered continuum of care for women, youth, families and at-risk individuals who are vulnerable, exploited or homeless. NOW's Vision: A community where all women live healthy empowered lives, free of exploitation.

About This Cause

Since 1998, NOW has been providing services to vulnerable and at-risk single women and women with children in our community. Over the years, the agency has worked collaboratively with a wide range of service providers and all levels of government to develop housing, programs and services to meet identified needs in our region. These are always aligned to our mission and vision, ensuring our participants’ needs are met and unnecessary duplication of service is avoided. Many of those who enter our doors are economically disadvantaged, while others were abused as children and ended up in violent relationships or in unsafe situations on the streets of our cities – they have sadly experienced addictions, abuse, homelessness and present with mental health concerns. However, they all present with resilience and strength and many seek to make changes to their lifestyle. Seeking change is not the easiest option, however when they walk through the doors at NOW, we have housing and programming available, which in conjunction with solid partnerships that we have formed with other service providers, allows our participants’ hope of change to become a reality. Although based in Kelowna, NOW receives referrals province wide as well as out of province. We are proud to present the following continuum of care which supports social well-being for our participants, assisting them with the capacity to rebuild their lives, reach their goals and reintegrate back into community life. The Alexandra Gardner Women and Children Safe Centre (A 20+ bed low-barrier homeless shelter for women, youth and children) Twenty-four-hour Emergency Assistance (On call client support 24 hours a day) Essentials Program (NOW's recovery program - providing safe housing, individualized support and four months of life skills sessions) Mental Wellness Program Therapy Programs (trauma, equine and holistic) Healthy Living and Follow Care Programs (additional support for graduates of our recovery program as well as tenants living in our affordable housing buildings) Peer Mentor Program Homeless Prevention Program NOW Place Apartments (21 units of 1 and 2 bed affordable housing) Tutt Street Place (39 units of 1,2 and 3 bed affordable housing) Cawston Ave (40 units of 1,2 and 3 bed affordable housing ) Hall Crossing(28 town houses with on-site support for women and children who have fled or fleeing domestic violence) Please refer to our website for full program details: www.nowcanada.ca NOW’s programs are presented by a committed staff, offering participants the opportunity to build on their unique attributes so they can transform their lives and emerge stronger and committed to their recovery or other personal goals with the desire to continue to move forward towards independence.
