RARE CHARITABLE RESEARCH RESERVE

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario, N3H4R8 Canada

Mission Statement

Through the combined efforts of the community, including local Indigenous Peoples, and rare’s team of staff, advisors and artists, we will co-create the most inclusive practices and answers to environmental issues, stewarding the reserve’s diverse network of natural landscapes for ecological integrity and future generations.

About This Cause

The rare Charitable Research Reserve is a community-based urban land trust and environmental institute that protects over 1,500 acres of highly sensitive lands across Waterloo Region and Wellington County now and forever. The organization manages over 14 km of trails free and open for the public for passive recreation. We seek to make the world a more sustainable place by acknowledging that people are a part of the environment. By working together, we can protect our natural spaces for our enjoyment and well-being, today and into the future. The research and scientific study of our natural and cultural heritage that takes place at rare feeds a Chain of Learning which builds knowledge and a sense of wonderment from the most senior scientist to the youngest of student, and the public alike. We offer a myriad of community programming including community events, nature programming for schools, March Break and Summer camp, and community gardens.
