About This Cause

The Black Youth Helpline (BYH) is a national not-for-profit, registered charitable organization governed by a Board of Directors. The organization serves ALL youth and specifically responds to the need for a Black youth specific service, resourced to promote access to culturally appropriate supports for youth, families, schools and youth serving institutions. Your donations support Youth, Families and Schools Canada-wide through: 1) Our Multicultural Youth Helpline & Services which provides direct services to clients seeking support and 2) Systems change initiatives focused on: Education: Seeking alternatives to exclusion from schools-Canada-wide while helping youth remain and succeed in school. BYH goal remains to make our beloved country Canada the first globally with a national education policy on Zero Exclusion from schools utilizing well-resourced alternatives. Health: Collaborative advocacy aimed at co-creating mainstream health system access points to professional mental health assessment and treatment. Canada’s first such access point is now active! A hospital-community based partnership between St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto and BYH. And, Community Development: Working directly with youth and families. Intervening early to help address challenges faced by youth and helping vulnerable children remain and succeed in school, results in the best chance for youth to experience successful futures. This is the focus of the Black Youth Helpline.
