Mission Statement
Sewa Canada International serves the underprivileged through disaster relief, education, health, humanitarian aid and social development projects. The word Sewa stands for 'service to humanity'. Sewa has been a registered Canadian charity since 1999.
About This Cause
Sewa Canada’s motto is “Service to Humanity is Service to God” (Nar Sewa Narayan Sewa) because we believe that whole world is one family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam) so, May all be happy; May all be free from sickness. The word 'SEWA' in Sanskrit means selfless service to the sick, poor, destitute, vulnerable and oppressed members of our social structure. Sewa Canada International has been serving the underprivileged for over three decades. Through our innovative and selfless service programs we continuously strive to help people in need through donations and by engaging our trusted partners. Sewa attempts to serve the poor and the underprivileged through poverty alleviation, education, health, disaster relief and social development. Sewa Canada International Aid was started in 1991 and was formally registered as a non-profit charitable organization in January 1999. Sewa Canada is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Sewa Canada International has in the past and present carried out projects in Canada, India, Nepal and other countries as well. Recent Sewa projects have supported relief efforts in Turkey, Ukraine and Kenya in Africa. Sewa Canada chapters are located in Vancouver, Toronto, Markham, London Ontario etc. Sewa Canada is leading humanitarian aid and development-oriented charity with a focus on selfless humanitarian efforts by providing service to all irrespective of race, nationality, religion, or sex. Through our innovative and selfless service programs we continuously strive to help people in need through donations and by engaging our trusted partners. Past Sewa Canada projects in India have taken place in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Assam etc. Our approach is that our commitment to Sewa Canada projects will be matched with strong financial and business controls to assure that the money we invest ends up accomplishing our and the donor’s intended goals. We follow strict financial control which in turn helps us to maintain close to 96% project efficiency ratio in the last three years. Our approach is as follows: -We engage our trusted partners/agents to identify needs and carry out our SEWA mission on the ground. -We build strategic alliances with organizations that have the knowledge and infrastructure to achieve our mission. -We only fund trusted local organizations with common humanitarian concerns at grass roots level. -We regularly monitor progress of the programs and audit the impact by visiting them in person. -We keep our donors informed how their adopted program is accomplishing their vision of SEWA Mission. -We encourage seva programs to be self-sufficient and once its achieved then we move on to next challenge. -We rely on our dedicated volunteers and chapters for financial support. -We rely on you, our individual and corporate donors for financial support.
