Mission Statement
As a non-profit partner of the Edmonton Valley Zoo since 1988, the Valley Zoo Development Society’s goal is to promote education and conservation efforts in our community. The Society is taking a lead role in the stunning and sustainable transformation of our Zoo. Our next showcase project is a nine million dollar campaign in support of the next phase of the Zoo’s revitalization – Nature’s Wild Backyard…….an exciting new space where we will encourage learning through play. We invite you to help us create a vibrant new zoo with a powerful advocacy role for wildlife and wild spaces. Help us build a re-energized zoo with improved habitats, better opportunities for guests to closely interact with animals and state-of-the-art research and education facilities.
About This Cause
The Edmonton Valley Zoo is committed to bringing conservation, education and recreation to the people of Edmonton and its visitors, so that they may better understand the amazing world around us. We have begun an exciting new journey to expand the Zoo to a world-class facility with greater capacity to serve our growing and diverse community. The next phase of the Zoo’s revitalization is called Nature’s Wild Backyard. It will be laid out in a series of Zones which will allow our guests to experience each Zone from the same point of view as the animals that inhabit it: Under. Between. On. Above. It will provide unique opportunities for children, and adults alike, to learn through play and will become a place for humans to create a special bond with animals. Our goal is to inspire new generations of ambassadors who care about animals and are committed to preserving the natural world around us. Completion of Nature’s Wild Backyard will expand the Edmonton Valley Zoo’s reputation as a leader in animal welfare, education, conservation and environmental stewardship.
