GREATER PETERBOROUGH HEALTH SERVICES FOUNDATION

Peterborough, Ontario, K9J 2R8 Canada

Mission Statement

As a non-profit Foundation our vision is to fund and support programs that positively impact the social determinants of health. By partnering with the Peterborough Family Health Team and other community based organizations, we can best support the evolving health needs of Peterborough City and County. This allows us to work with partners in fostering awareness surrounding health promotion while also raising vital funding for initiatives that broaden equity and access to healthcare.

About This Cause

Formerly the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation beginning in 1985, the Foundation supported strictly in-hospital patient care, equipment and training needs. After St. Joseph's Hospital closed in 2000, the Foundation became actively involved in the popular Festival of Trees event over the holidays for over a decade, with all proceeds raised being directed to charitable organizations that support local healthcare, and it also spearheaded a successful multi-million dollar capital campaign for the St. Joseph's at Fleming long-term care facility from 2002-2006. Since 2009, the now Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation has focused its mandate and fundraising efforts on supporting the Peterborough Family Health Team who provide primary healthcare to over 115,000 patients in the City & County of Peterborough. GPHSF, Your Family Health Team Foundation supports these efforts and helps to bridge the gap in funding for the Peterborough Family Health Team's specialized programs and services available free of charge to all patients, research, capital equipment needs, as well as training and continuing medical education for both local family physicians and allied healthcare professionals. While Peterborough Family Health Team is its primary partner, the Foundation also impacts vital community initiatives through its partnership with group events such as: - The annual Peterborough Butterfly Run in support of individuals & families who have lost a pregnancy, lost a child or who are unable to conceive, - The Annual Tebey Golf Classic raising funds for Youth Mental Health through Yes Shelter for Youth and Families and Peterborough Youth Services, - Support for the New Canadians Centre immigrant and refugee health clinic, - Support for PACA (Peterborough Athletic Concussion Awareness) to help educated our community on the impacts and implications of concussions in sport and how to treat concussions.
