Mission Statement

Handi-Care Intl., aka HCI, is a volunteer driven charity, with an admin expense of less than 3%. 1. HCI focuses on empowerment of children, youth and adults with disabilities of all kinds, by providing education, rehabilitation, vocational training and job placements. Target population is from economically backward rural India. 2. HCI supports Canadian families of children with disabilities, by providing resources, guidance and financial support. 3. Provide opportunities for Canadian graduate students in Physio and Occupational therapies to obtain 2 to 3 month placements in India with partner organizations, leading to a credit for graduation. 8 Canadian Universities are affiliated with HCI for this purpose. 4. Provide opportunities for professional therapists from Canada to offer volunteer services in India, to enhance and enrich the rehab process in India.

About This Cause

HCI works with organizations that fulfill all the criteria it sets forth, with high expectations of commitment, reputability, accountability and efficiency. HCI funds these organizations for specific projects and works hand in hand with them to ensure implementation and to keep the project under check. Major partner organization is Amar Seva Sangam in India. Other partner organizations include Maithri Educational Trust, India, CREED, Dream School, to name a few. Mission Statement: Helping disadvantaged children and youth with special needs, with education, rehabilitation and training to empower and integrate them with the main stream community. Vision: To raise awareness about and Empower disadvantaged persons of South Asian descent. Mandate: Relieving poverty by providing housing and related facilities for people with special needs as well as people who are destitute, relieving suffering or disability including providing facilities for the care,maintenance, and rehabilitation of the handicapped and destitute, and establishing and operating schools including workshops for vocational training and rehabilitation for handicapped and destitute people. Goal: 1. Accelerate our support to NGOs in India who offer direct services to the poor rural disabled, through sponsorship programs. 2. Accelerate Clinical and professional Volunteer placements in India, leading to credits at various Canadian Universities. 3. Raising awareness regarding initiatives pertaining to disability in the Greater Toronto Area. 4. Accelerate support for SDR surgery and post SDR rehab for children affected by spastic conditions. Our Major Accomplishments: In Canada: • Fund specialized surgery for children from Ontario with Cerebral Palsy that are not covered by OHIP • Partnered with 8 Canadian universities to place over 60 OT/PT professionals and students in India in the last two years In India: • Procured funding from Govt. of Canada for $600,000 over the next 3 years on a matching basis. • Built integrated high school to provide education for over 700 eco- nomically disadvantaged students of all abilities • Funded construction of an Early Intervention Centre and sponsored the rehab of over 200 children under age 6 with delayed develop- ment. • Built Centre for Special Education to provide rehabilitation and education for over 150 children with intellectual disabilities • Sponsor education and health care of over 450 under-privileged children and youth annually • Sponsored an average of 80,000 meals annually
