East Kootenay Friends of Refugees Society

" Sponsoring refugees from many countries to resettle successfully in rural communities in B.C. as well as in Calgary and Edmonton is our strength. We are dedicated volunteers who have been successfully resettling refugees from Cambodia, Burma, Eritrea, Colombia, South Sudan, Syria and Liberia for 30 years. We focus on refugees who may have special needs and benefit from the support of small, welcoming communities. "

Charity Description

Our charity is a registered society with our first purpose being the sponsorship and resettlement of vulnerable refugees. We volunteer to fund-raise for the refugee families first year in Canada and to meet their resettlement needs. These commitments often lead to life-long friendships. We invite you to become involved as a donor and/or as a settlement and integration volunteer with refugees! We have branches in Creston, Nelson, Rossland, Fernie, Kimberley and Cranbrook B.C. as well as in Calgary and Edmonton. We have a summer camp program with therapeutic recreational activities as well as an educational upgrading component.
