Mission Statement

Out On Screen illuminates, celebrates, and advances queer lives through film, education, and dialogue. We pursue this mission through the annual delivery of the Vancouver Queer Film Festival and through the year-round Out In Schools program.

About This Cause

What began in 1988 as a small film festival has evolved into a year-round multi-faceted queer arts organization with the following core programs: Vancouver Queer Film Festival Celebrating the best in independent queer cinema the Vancouver Queer Film Festival is Vancouver's second largest film festival. The Festival hosts a variety of performances, workshops, and parties; facilitating a unique community space for 11 days each August. Out In Schools Out In Schools engages youth through film in the promotion of safer and more inclusive learning environments, free from homophobia, transphobia, and bullying. Homophobia and transphobia are serious issues facing today's youth, and serve to further isolate young people with marginalized identities. We use queer, trans, and Two Spirit films to engage youth and educators in conversation around the lived experiences of LGBT2Q+ people and have a proven ability to reduce instances of bullying while increasing feelings of school connectedness.
