Mission Statement
The Eye Foundation of Canada (EFC), is an independent non-profit organization that has been committed to eye care and medical research since it was founded in 1989.
About This Cause
For 36 years now, the EFC has provided a unique and educational experience for medical students who wish to pursue careers in Ophthalmology, while improving patient care through research. The EFC awards scholarships to outstanding Canadian medical students to encourage them to pursue a career in ophthalmology. In fact, 75% of EFC Graduates have become prominent ophthalmologists, and of those 87% have become professors. Over the past 10 years alone, the EFC has helped 20 students enter advanced training to become eye surgeons, and in turn, many have also become mentors to other EFC Summer Scholarship recipients. With 60 recipients having participated in this unique program and 25+ others having participated in shorter mentorships EFC is making a difference! Donations support innovative research, which generates significant progress in eye care and understanding of eye diseases, including studies to ensure more accurate diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and neurologic disorders, and ophthalmic surgical devices and antibiotics that improve surgical safety.
