Mission Statement

We are a registered charity providing musical enrichment for adults and children with disabilities through the running of two professionally directed and accompanied choirs, and the offering of subsidies for professional individual music lessons. We are an inclusive artistic community which pursues engaging and rewarding musical experiences for all of its members, beyond any limiting factor. Our mission is to empower musical individuals of varying abilities to pursue professional instruction in music through our choirs and lesson subsidies, without significant cost to these individuals, in an inclusive and fun atmosphere. To this end, the choirs are free to join, and individual music lessons range in cost from free to $5/lesson depending on the individual teacher's fee less our subsidy.

About This Cause

Our programming includes the running of two choirs and subsidized individual music lessons for adults and children with disabilities. The Braille Tones Choir is a professionally directed and accompanied choir for adults with disabilities that sings in four part harmony with the help of four paid section leaders drawn from community choirs in Edmonton. This choir is free to join and rehearses weekly from September to June. They perform at numerous venues throughout the year, collaborate with other choirs, and have an annual choir retreat/workshop with a nationally recognized choral clinician. The Semitones Choir is an integrated and inclusive choir made up of children with and without disabilities. This choir is also professionally directed and accompanied and relies on the help of volunteer section leaders. The Semitones Choir is free to join, rehearses weekly and performs 3-5 times a year at various venues. We also provide heavily subsidized individual music lessons for children and adults with disabilities through partnerships with professional musicians and music schools in Edmonton and the surrounding area. These students receive up to 33 subsidized lessons per year and perform twice annually at recitals held at Giovanni School of Music. The cost of lessons varies based on the rates of individual music teachers less the subsidy.
