About This Cause

Sri Murugan Society of Alberta, Institution for Hindu Cultural Community Development for Albertans The Sri Murugan Society of Alberta was founded in April 1994, to serve the religious needs and promote the spiritual wellbeing of a growing community of Hindus in Calgary and the surrounding areas The primary objectives of the Society is to “foster, promote and perpetuate the worship of Lord Sri Murugan through the construction and maintenance of a temple” dedicated to the worship of Sri Murugan. The founders believed that Calgary is an ideal place for a Murugan temple as mountains are considered to be the preferred abode of Sri Murugan. The Society purchased a piece of land in the Wagon Wheel industrial area near Balzac, AB and built a community hall and Temple in 2016. At present we have Lord Sri Ganesha installed and daily poojas are being conducted as per the Hindu Agama tradition. We are currently construction the rest of the Sannithi (Sanctum) to host Lord Sri Murugan, Valli and Deivanai, Lord Venkatachalapathi, Lord Aiyyappan, Lord Sivan and Parvathi, etc. The society also conducts various cultural activities such as Calgaryil Thiruvaiyaaru - a Carnatic Music fundraising show to promote Carnatic Music and raise funds for the Temple. Sri Murugan Society of Alberta is a registered charitable, not for profit organization.
