Mission Statement
The Iodine Global Network (IGN) is a non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to sustainable elimination of iodine deficiency worldwide.
About This Cause
Why should everyone care about iodine deficiency? In 2016, iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) are still one of the world’s leading causes of preventable mental impairment. Our bodies need iodine to produce thyroid hormones, which are essential for the correct development of the brain. What are we doing to help? We support salt iodization - a safe, scalable and, most importantly, sustainable and cost-effective way of improving iodine nutrition. Our vision is a world where all people reach optimal iodine nutrition, which means that children can reach their full educational potential. Our mission is to be the authoritative voice for iodine nutrition and lead the global effort to eliminate iodine deficiency by 2024. Who is with us? Because salt iodization is a proven, evidence-based, and cost-effective intervention, the IGN has been recognized as an outstanding giving opportunity by the charity evaluator GiveWell and Peter Singer's charity The Life You Can Save. What will happen with your donation? Even the smallest donation can be used in a meaningful way to support existing iodization programs, help expand them, or advocate with national governments to put iodine nutrition high on their public health agenda. All donated funds are pooled and channeled towards concrete, targeted actions at the national, regional, and global level. Because we work globally, your request to direct your donation to a specific country or region can usually be accommodated (please email us to discuss). So please donate today to help us raise the world's IQ. Thank you!
