Mission Statement

Daycare - Preschool - School Age Programs - Nature Play and Outdoor Education

About This Cause

Founded in 1996, The Clubhouse Child Care Center offers preschool, daycare, school age care and parent-child Mother Goose early literacy programs over 8 locations. "The Clubhouse Farm" pilot project began in 2012 to offer children access to nature, and The Clubhouse soon after received the British Columbia Child Care Award of Excellence in Innovation. Spending time outdoors playing, getting creative, and relaxing have been scientifically shown to benefit children in many ways, and too many children today do not have the opportunities to do so. From stress reduction and improving concentration, to developing imagination, social skills, risk assessment and problem solving skills, spending time outside benefits every child’s overall health and well-being. In this optimal learning environment, we host daycare, preschool, and school age children’s groups. Lunches are provided for many groups as part of our nutrition program, which also serves to reduce garbage and preservatives brought with typical lunches. Food scraps go to the chickens or in the compost, helping to close our cycle of nutrients. Homemade bread, cookies, muffins, jams, and other items used on a daily basis are made in the farmhouse, and children enjoy participating. Supported by our interdisciplinary and hardworking team, we have documented successes in both the field of education and childcare. From therapeutic benefits for children, to offering an interactive learning platform, to growing local food while supporting biodiversity and habitat restoration, this model supports many elements for sustainable community development.
