Mission Statement
PURPOSE: Camp BUCKO is a fun, safe and caring camp program free to children ages 7 to 17 with burn injuries. Our residential setting encourages campers to participate in a variety of social, recreational and therapeutic activities that promote self-esteem, the development of leadership skills and personal growth. At Camp BUCKO, children have a place where they can be themselves without feeling different or alone. Camp Aims and Goals: • to have a fun filled outdoor adventure • to create a sense of community by providing a place where campers can learn about themselves and others with similar experiences • to introduce campers to dynamic role models by including adult burn survivors as Camp BUCKO volunteers • to promote each child’s unique abilities and strengths as steps in enhancing self acceptance • to promote opportunities to learn about working in groups as well as in one-on-one interactions among peers. • to continually promote and develop a strong team of volunteers from the community and our camp
About This Cause
We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share some information with you about Camp BUCKO -- BUrn Camp for Kids in Ontario as we are very excited about the program we are able to offer to these young burn survivors. Any child in the Province of Ontario, between the ages of 7 and 17, who sustained a burn which required two weeks or more of medical treatment, is eligible to participate in the Camp BUCKO Program. The recovery from a burn injury is both emotionally and physically painful and our goal is to continue to support our young burn survivors. Camp BUCKO provides our campers with an opportunity to come together in a supportive, fun-filled environment and learn there is more to who they are than just their scars. Our supportive environment is key to helping these children achieve greater confidence and self-esteem. There is no charge to the family for a young burn survivor to be involved with the Camp BUCKO Program. We rely solely on the generous donations from our sponsors. Camp BUCKO is a registered charity and can issue tax receipts for donations of $20+.
