Mission Statement
LGBT Youth Line is a Queer, Trans, Two-Spirit youth-led organization that affirms and supports the experiences of youth (29 and under) across Ontario. We do this by: - Providing anonymous peer support and referrals - Training youth to provide support to other youth; and - Providing resources so youth can make informed decisions.
About This Cause
Our organization offers the following programs/services: • Peer Support and Referrals: Working within an anti-oppression framework, we provide confidential peer support by telephone, texting, online and email to LGBTQ youth in Ontario. We also give referrals through our service and on our website. We are open 5 days a week from 4 – 9:30 pm. • Youth leadership and capacity building: We create opportunities for skills development at every level of the organization, with over half our Board Members identifying as youth. Our peer support volunteers go through 36 hours of training and attend additional trainings throughout the year. • Outreach and Advocacy: We support LGBTQ youth across Ontario in collaboration with other organizations and community groups. We have an active social media presence that connects youth to online resources and local programs/services in their regions. • Special Events and Programs: We run events like the LGBT Youth Awards to celebrate youth in addition to running youth workshops and other one-off programs. All of our events centre access by ensuring food and tokens are provided to all youth attendees, programs are run in centralized locations and ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation is available.
