Mission Statement
Our mission is to increase the sobriety success rate, post detox and treatment, of women and men in Alberta, who are surviving the addiction challenges while re-establishing themselves within their communities. With the intention of: 1. Increasing the skills and knowledge that will improve their self-worth and self-esteem. 2. Help reduce the number of children taken into Social Services, due to poor parental care from substance use. 3. Improving and increasing family cohesiveness and a healthier environment in communities. 4. To help reduce the number of children born with the effects of substance use that also includes alcohol, which in turn impacts the growth & development of these children.
About This Cause
Our Association is based in Alberta with the main focus on working with individuals facing substance use challenges and aiming to stay sober for themselves, their children, family, and community. We are governed by the Board of Directors with the mandate to maintain the governance of the board including men, women, two-spirit, trans and non-binary peoples. All members of the board, employees, and volunteers are expected to take the trauma-informed care training, addictions and substance use, and mental health awareness training. This is to ensure that our clients [ who are primarily struggling with substance use] and their families and/or support persons are assisted appropriately with compassion, respect, inclusiveness, and understanding. Participants are taken through a self-referral-based system. The information about the program is distributed through our partner organizations such as Community Health Centers, clinics, departments serving women/men/children, detox & treatment centers, community groups, etc. All intake interviews and meeting proceedings are kept confidential. Once the client is engaged with our program, we ensure that they are assigned a community support worker who connects them with other available needed services beyond what we currently provide, to assist with continuity of care and support towards their journey to sobriety. Transport, companionship, education, recreation with rehabilitation focus activities, and childcare are the major services that we provide to optimize the chances of success for all our clients. The cultural and linguistic differences found among our clients include non Canadian major languages. We strive to provide translations as needed. The organization strives to enlist community support workers who are members of the served communities in Southern Alberta as our focus at this given time. The aim is to expand to other communities as we continue to grow with the capacity and resources. The overall goal is to meet the specific language/s and cultural needs of our participants, to further ensure their success in the programs and services available to them. The organization aims to provide a flexible and holistic program of support to accommodate the varying needs of participants. Our collaborating agencies include Alberta Health Services, community Wellness Centres, Religious Organizations, Community groups, culturally-based supports, Rehabilitation Centres, Substance Use Treatment Centres, Mental Health Services, and other private sectors as deemed necessary.
