About This Cause
The primary outcome for the Silver Skate Festival is to get as many individuals outside and enjoying winter as possible, benefiting the health and wellness of the community and providing enrichment through arts and cultural activities. The Silver Skate Festival is a ten-day event celebrating winter programming in Edmonton. Commemorating its 36th anniversary in 2026, the Festival showcases Edmonton's multiculturalism and promotes a positive perception of winter. The festival grounds serve as a community center with an expansive park and skating area. Utilizing the park, the Festival presents a wide range of arts, culture, sport, and recreational activities. As the majority of events are free, the Silver Skate Festival is accessible to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The Festival fosters community and celebrates culture, aiming to offer inclusive programming. Edmonton's artistic and multicultural identity is highlighted throughout the year. The Silver Skate Festival provides an opportunity for individuals to connect with their heritage, partake in various activities, and appreciate winter. Featuring over 30 events, including diverse artistic practices, sports, recreational activities, family events, and Indigenous and LGBTQ+ programming, the Festival seeks to cultivate an inclusive and welcoming environment for the entire community. The primary objective of the Silver Skate Festival is to encourage our audience to engage in outdoor winter activities, thereby promoting community health and wellness, and providing cultural enrichment.
