Mission Statement

UWARF has partnered with local Ukrainian organizations and charities and hired out-of-work veterinarians and assistants, along with volunteers to set up mobile sterilization, vaccination and microchip clinics.

About This Cause

Nearly 12 million people have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. At least 30% of Ukrainians were forced to leave behind their pets, which results in millions of domesticated animals without homes. Currently, these animals are wandering the streets of Ukraine alone, without food, and vulnerable to bomb and missile attacks. “Russian soldiers are committing war crimes against civilians and animals,” says Olga Orda, Hypemachine founder and ARF’s Ukrainian Liaison. “Why can they walk away with no consequences when they commit crimes against innocent animals whereas they wouldn’t be able to get away with this when committing war crimes against humans? ARF is standing up for the lives and dignity of these cherished family pets.” Many are risking their lives making daily trips into Ukraine to deliver these needed supplies. Anastasia Yalanskaya was delivering dog food to a shelter outside Kyiv when she was shot and killed by Russian troops. Shelters are currently over capacity—Gostomel Kyiv shelter has 400 dogs alone. They only have four staff to care for all these animals, and lack food, supplies, and medication. As many local and international animal nonprofits abandon Ukrainian animals due to the human risk of warfare, ARF delivers medicine, supplies, and food to shelters. We also rescue abandoned animals left in dangerous situations, because we firmly believe no animal deserves to be left behind. UWARF helps Ukrainian vets and volunteers spay, neuter, vaccinate and microchip these dogs and cats. We have already done thousands of them. We use Microsoft technology to track them and facial recogonition to try and reunite them with their owners. We also put them on the Cudo's blockchain and create a NFT for each animal helping trace them and their location.
