Mission Statement
30 years ago, after a personal experience with childhood cancer, Dr. Zubieta founded in Chile Fundacion Nuestros Hijos. Today we provide integral support to disadvantaged children with cancer in order to increase their life expectancy, improve quality of life, and decrease the psychosocial impact of the illness on both the children and their families. We complement and improve existing services for cancer patients through a variety of social and medical programs, as well as other education, research initiatives and social reintegration programs.
About This Cause
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to caring for children diagnosed with cancer, from some of the poorest families in Chile. We provide them integral support in order to increase their life expectancy, improve quality of life, and decrease the psychosocial impact of the illness on both the children and their families. We complement and improve existing services for cancer patients through a variety of social and medical programs, as well as other education, research initiatives and social reintegration programs. Today FNH helps over 85% of children with cancer treated by the public healthcare system in Chile. Our services include the provision of specialist accommodation to families who travel long distances to receive oncological treatment. We provide isolation units and specialist drugs and medication. We also offer non-medical support, like access to formal education as well as psychological support during their cancer journey. We have the first Rehabilitation Center for children with cancer in Latin America. FNH mission is making childhood cancer a national health priority through shaping policy, supporting research, raising awareness, and providing educational resources and innovative programs to children with cancer, survivors, and their families. FNH is a leader in Latin America, we are exporting our model throughout other countries, enhancing the impact we have in fighting childhood cancer.
