Mission Statement
Children Are Us was established in 1995 by a group of parents of children with Intellectual Disabilities(ID) and is fueled by "lifelong education and lifelong care". We are committed to serving the needs of people with ID and to create more value of life for children with ID. We encourage their independence by helping to build their confidence and by providing sufficient care. Through repeating effort and accumulated experience, we work to educate the public about the unlimited potential of children with ID. Like you and I, they can also embark on a lifelong journey of hope.
About This Cause
Concentration Building - Job Training Services (Sheltered employment, Supportive employment, Foundation employment, Co-op) We truly believe that children with ID are able to become independent if proper support and training are provided. With assistance of social workers and industrial mentors, we teach them professional skills, provide simplified operational procedures and assistive devices. Meanwhile, children with ID are engaged in job matching and license acquisition to transform them from "service receivers" into "service providers". Comprehensive Care - Care Services (Full-day care institute, Day care institutes, Community sheltered workshops, Community residential services, Health centers, Temporal and short-term care services, Home care services, Supportive initiatives for middle aged and elderly people with ID) We work with social workers, educators, and professional nursing staffs to promote various care services to fulfill different needs of people with ID. With more comprehensive care, we can help them and their family to enjoy life. Spreading Love to Tribes - Being Loved and Blessing Others with Love In Taiwan, the public has been impressed by tasty breads made by people with ID from Children Are Us Foundation. In 2008, we initiated the project of "Spreading Love to Tribes", starting from vocational skills of people with ID, we called for the participation of the public to purchase and donate tasty and nutritious bakery boxes made by people with disabilities (PWD), then deliver breads and snacks to elementary schools in rural areas around the island. PWDs have opportunities to not only acquire a skill, but also help those children in need, and they are encouraged to spread love for effective distribution and use of charity resources. Accompanying People with ID, Enables Them to Live Independently (Children Are Us Music Band, Troupe, Scout Troop, Self-support Group, Transport Skills Training Program) In addition to job training, we focus on "holistic" development of people with ID. Thus, we set up a "music band" and a "troupe" respectively. We organize annual large-scale performing shows to enable people with ID to learn to accept themselves and interact with others via art training course.Furthermore, the Foundation promotes activities via "Children Are Us Scout Troop", "Transportation Training Program", and "Partner Groups" to teach the youth with Id to participate in good recreational activities, increase social engagement, build interpersonal relationship, and enjoy their lives.
