Mission Statement

Transform the lives of children with cerebral palsy and their families through a comprehensive solution that combines home rehabilitation, caregiver training, food assistance, income generation and legal support. Our mission is based on the conviction that true happiness arises when love, care and access to opportunity come together. For this reason, we implement our Happiness Formula: Rehabilitation + Inclusion + Comprehensive Support = Well-being and Hope, ensuring that each child and their family can build a future full of possibilities and dignity. We work every day to ensure that no family feels alone on their path and to promote a more supportive society, where everyone has the opportunity to smile.

About This Cause

Cerebral palsy (CP) affects 17 million children worldwide, limiting their mobility, independence, and development. It's estimated that between 1.4 and 2.1 million of these children live in low-income countries, where access to essential resources is already scarce. For thousands of children in Colombia, this means facing an uphill battle to get the rehabilitation services they need. Limited healthcare infrastructure, poverty, and lack of awareness create significant barriers. Families face long wait times, high costs for therapy and transportation, and inadequate therapy frequency, hindering their child's progress. This lack of access has devastating consequences: worsening the child's condition, reducing their quality of life, and leading to social isolation. It also places a significant socioeconomic burden on families and contributes to health inequities. As the World Health Organization emphasizes, access to care is a human right. Given the barriers to traditional rehabilitation, home-based models are a necessary solution. Most people with disabilities require rehabilitation services, with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychology being the most in demand. Models, like GymEnCasa, allow for Overcoming geographical and economic barriers, Increasing therapy frequency, and Empowering families. GymEnCasa (GEC) program the Unidos para sonreír, is a home-based rehabilitation solution that provides children with CP access to comprehensive rehabilitation through an early intervention program. This increases the frequency of therapy and adapts it to their individual needs, benefiting both the children and families. It has the potential to reduce healthcare costs, both in direct CP care and in treating complications associated with a lack of adequate rehabilitation. This innovation integrates a patented, adaptable and comprehensive device that allows multiple therapies to be performed on a single piece of equipment, eliminating the need to purchase additional devices and reducing costs for families. Its design facilitates the implementation of therapy at home and promotes the active participation of caregivers. Caregiver Training, Telerehabilitation and an App are also part of the program. This comprehensive solution GEC generates a greater impact on development because it Increases access and equity eliminating geographical, economic, and time barriers that limit access to traditional therapy. it Improves adherence to treatment and Empowers family autonomy, Reduces transportation costs, time spent by caregivers, and the need to purchase multiple devices. Also, by preventing complications, it contributes to reducing long-term healthcare costs. This benefits Children with CP, families, Health professionals, Health system and society. TOC: If we provide children with CP access to GEC, a program that combines a home rehabilitation device, caregiver training, telerehabilitation, and a mobile app, then families will be able to perform therapies more frequently and intensively, which will lead to improvements in the functionality and development of children. GEC will reduce the economic and emotional burden on families by eliminating the need to travel to rehabilitation centers. GEC can contribute to the reduction of long-term health care costs for the health system by preventing complications. Fundación Unidos para Sonreír is a Colombian non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life of children with cerebral palsy (CP) and their families. We provide accessible, affordable, and effective rehabilitation solutions.
