Mission Statement
At Sirius Foundation, our mission is to improve the lives of children facing adversity by supporting systemic changes, promoting inclusive education, and strengthening professional and public awareness. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up in a safe, supportive, and empowering environment — regardless of their life circumstances. We are committed to identifying and addressing the root causes of disadvantage affecting children, especially those living with disabilities, mental health challenges, or in socially marginalized conditions. Through evidence-based programs, strategic partnerships, and open dialogue with stakeholders, we aim to bring lasting improvements to the systems that care for children — in education, healthcare, social services, and family support. Our work is guided by the following core principles: Child-Centered Approach We place the needs, rights, and potential of the child at the heart of everything we do. We listen to their voices, advocate for their inclusion, and protect their dignity. Systemic Impact We focus on long-term, sustainable change. We support initiatives that go beyond one-time interventions and instead foster improvements in how public and professional systems respond to children’s needs. Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing We work closely with non-profit organizations, researchers, educators, policymakers, and care providers to develop, test, and scale effective solutions. We believe that collective intelligence and shared learning are vital to solving complex social challenges. Evidence and Accountability We use data, evaluation, and research to inform our decisions and to ensure that our support leads to measurable outcomes. Transparency and responsibility are key values in all our grant-making and operational processes. Innovation and Advocacy We embrace innovative approaches and support projects that explore new pathways to inclusion, support, and care. We also raise awareness and advocate for policies that uphold children’s rights and improve their well-being. Through grants, strategic programs, and knowledge dissemination, we seek to empower those who work with children and amplify the voices of families navigating difficult life situations. Our ultimate goal is a society in which no child is left behind — a society where support systems are flexible, inclusive, and truly responsive to the needs of every child.
About This Cause
The Sirius Foundation (Nadace Sirius) is a Czech charitable foundation dedicated to supporting children who face serious health, social, or educational disadvantages. Since its establishment in 2008, the foundation has been committed to creating systemic, sustainable change for vulnerable children and their families across the Czech Republic. Our mission is to ensure that every child — regardless of background or ability — has access to the care, education, and opportunities they need to live a fulfilling life. We focus on children who are: Living with disabilities or chronic illness Experiencing psychological or emotional trauma Raised in unstable, neglectful, or abusive environments At risk of social exclusion or poverty Living in institutional care or out-of-home placements Our Approach The Sirius Foundation works strategically in three main areas: Grantmaking We support non-profit organizations, research institutions, and educational projects that develop innovative and scalable solutions for children in need. Our grants are aimed at long-term impact, helping build capacity and knowledge in the sectors that serve children. Advocacy and Awareness We raise awareness of the challenges vulnerable children face, and we work to improve the public narrative around disability, mental health, inclusive education, and child protection. We strive to give a voice to children and families who are often unheard in policy-making processes. Knowledge and Systems Change Through our in-house platform Sirius Center for Support of Children, we gather and share best practices, research findings, and evaluation results to influence public systems. We support efforts that lead to legislative and policy changes in education, social work, and healthcare. What We Support We fund and partner with projects that: Promote inclusive education and support services in mainstream schools Provide psychological, therapeutic, or social assistance to children and families Strengthen family functioning to prevent unnecessary institutionalization Train teachers, social workers, therapists, and healthcare providers Generate and disseminate research to inform policy and practice Develop tools for early intervention, diagnostics, and rehabilitation Create spaces for cooperation between professionals, families, and decision-makers Selected Activities and Achievements National Conferences and Roundtables: We organize expert events that bring together researchers, professionals, public officials, and people with lived experience to address systemic issues and share knowledge. Policy Advocacy: Our foundation has contributed to legislative proposals and working groups on inclusive education, child mental health services, and deinstitutionalization. Publications and Research: We support data-driven insights, thematic studies, and monitoring reports that inform both practice and public policy. Support for NGOs: Over the years, we have provided funding to dozens of Czech NGOs that work directly with children, including support for their strategic development, innovation, and evaluation. Our Values Respect and Dignity: Every child has unique worth and potential. Inclusion: Society must be accessible to all children, regardless of their abilities or circumstances. Partnership: Collaboration among families, professionals, and institutions is essential for success. Evidence-Based Action: We prioritize data, research, and measurable impact. Sustainability: We invest in lasting change, not just short-term relief. Governance and Structure The Sirius Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees and advised by expert committees. We adhere to transparent governance and ethical grantmaking practices. Our work is audited regularly, and we publish an annual report with financial statements and activity summaries. The foundation operates under Czech law and is registered with the public register of foundations. We are a recognized and trusted actor in the nonprofit and social innovation sectors in the Czech Republic.
