Mission Statement
ŽIVOT 90 was founded in 1990 by Blanka and Jan Lorman with the mission to change the perception of old age and aging in the Czech Republic. For over 34 years, we have been working to ensure that everyone can enjoy their senior years and live with dignity in their own home. We believe that old age is not a stigma. It can be lived actively, healthily, and above all, with dignity.

Join Us in Changing the Perception of Old Age and Aging How Do We Help? Our wide range of services and activities allows us to provide comprehensive support to older adults and address all their needs—from crisis intervention and accompaniment during various situations to daily care and rehabilitation. We also create spaces and conditions that empower seniors to continue living the way they want, where they want. 1. Emergency Care Service Our emergency care service protects the lives and health of older adults who want to live at home. A wristband with an emergency button they can press in case of a fall or health issue ensures their safety. We are in constant contact with them and send help when needed. ŽIVOT 90 was a pioneer of this service in the Czech Republic. "It’s simply invaluable to know that nothing can happen to me without help. If something happens and I’m conscious, I can press the button, and someone responds immediately. Even if I’m unsure or if it’s 3 a.m., I know someone will be there," says Emma, who has been using the service for 12 years. 2. Educational and Community Programs at Our Community Center Our community center, located in the heart of Prague, welcomes more than 500 older adults every week. They gather for belly dance, tai chi, language lessons, yoga, Pilates, as well as lectures, discussions, and movie screenings. Most of our courses are led by older instructors. "I always wanted to learn Italian properly. I started with an Italian conversation class, and now I’m so good that I teach courses myself. Over the years I’ve been coming to ŽIVOT 90, I’ve made so many new friends," says Sylva, an Italian language instructor. 3. Senior Telephone Helpline Senior Telephone is the only free, 24/7 helpline in the Czech Republic for seniors and caregivers. Each year, we speak with over 10,000 people. "I want to sincerely thank the entire Senior Telephone team for your work. I appreciate that you help people. I sometimes call when I’m feeling very low, and it always helps to talk to someone. I’m very grateful," says a client of the helpline. 4. Home Care and Respite Center Our caregivers visit the homes of seniors and help with daily tasks they can no longer manage on their own. We also offer accompaniment to doctor’s appointments, walks, or administrative offices. Our respite center offers temporary residential or outpatient care, including physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and occupational therapy. This gives family caregivers time to recharge or handle important matters. "When we brought our mom to the respite center, we went through all the formalities and were amazed. The head nurse was a lovely lady who hugged my mom and assured her she would like it there—and she wasn’t lying. From that day, mom was thrilled. Everyone is kind, supportive, and calming. And I must note, this kindness was never an act. I often overheard their comforting words even before I stepped out of the elevator," says Alice, the daughter of a client. 5. Free Counseling Services We provide free counseling for seniors and caregivers. We help with navigating social welfare benefits, finding suitable services based on individual needs, and offer home consultations when needed. "I want to thank you for the support you gave me after I returned from the hospital. I’m feeling better now, but I couldn’t have managed it on my own without you," says a counseling center client. 6. Volunteer Program Our volunteer programs engage over 194 volunteers. With 70% of them being seniors, we are the largest senior volunteer center in the Czech Republic. "My volunteer, Dana, is a wonderful person. I haven’t met someone like her in a long time. She works for free, in her free time. A heartfelt thank you to every volunteer—it’s a true act of kindness. They help even with kind words," says Josefa, a volunteer program client.
