About This Cause

Brief Overview of Hope for Children Organization (HFC) Hope for Children Organization (HFC) is a non-political, non-faith-based local NGO established in November 2000 to provide sustainable, community-based care and support for children and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Registered as an Ethiopian resident charity (Reg. No. 0016), HFC has successfully implemented HIV/AIDS prevention and control programs through diverse funding sources. With 23 years of experience, HFC has supported over 27,000 orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and 10,000 people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), mobilizing 450 volunteers. Key services include shelter, healthcare, psychosocial support, education, and nutritional aid. The organization operates in Addis Ababa, Oromia, and Harari regions, with a head office in Addis Ababa. HFC has executed impactful projects, such as the Integrated Community-Based HIV/AIDS Preventive, Care, and Support Project (2013–2016) with USAID/Ethiopia, reaching 9,000 people with care and economic strengthening programs. The organization has also facilitated village savings and loan associations (VSLA), benefiting 22,000 families in Addis Ababa and 12,000 in Oromia in partnership with Plan International Ethiopia (2007–2015). As a national implementing partner, HFC executed the Strengthening Communities Response to HIV/AIDS (SCRHA/PATH) project, enhancing the capacity of 34 CSOs in 47 towns while supporting 86,871 PLWHA. The Ethiopian Social Accountability Project (World Bank) has also been a focus since 2013, coordinating implementing partners across 22 districts. HFC has partnered with international and local organizations, including UNICEF, USAID, Plan International, multiple embassies, the Global Fund for Children, and the World Bank. Currently, HFC provides holistic support to children affected by HIV/AIDS, addressing basic needs, psychosocial care, and preventive interventions. Programs include residential care, youth enrichment, community mobilization, sponsorship programs, girls’ empowerment, and social accountability. ________________________________________ Objective of Hope for Children Organization A.
