Mission Statement
Created in September 2021, HEXECO is the first recycling center in the Haut-Garonne department dedicated to sports equipment. Based in Toulouse, the association's mission is to be on the ground to: • Create and maintain the first sector for the reuse of sports and leisure articles in Toulouse and its surroundings, • Make sports practice more accessible by offering sporting goods at solidarity prices for everyone, • Make sport a lever to raise awareness among as many people as possible about the ecological transition, • Support sports organizations in reducing their environmental impact. The association is a local response to United Nations SDGs 12 and 13.
About This Cause
The practice of physical and sporting activity is strongly encouraged for health and social connection. This is not without consequences for the environment and social inequalities: • Each year in France, the equivalent of 104,000 tonnes of sporting goods end up as waste. • 3/4 of the wealthiest people practice a sporting activity, compared to just over half of the poorest. To encourage reuse and offer affordable purchasing prices, there are general resource centers such as La Glanerie, la Remixerie, La Rafistolerie or les Emmaus. Although recognized and established for a long time in the region, these structures are not specialized in the reuse of sporting goods. Players in the linear economy are developing a second-hand offer. This is the case of Decathlon’s “second life” offer, the prices of which remain high for part of the population. To promote the practice of physical and sporting activity at all ages and according to their physical and mental condition and to promote access to local physical activity, the availability of equipment and small materials is essential. Promoting the reuse of small sports equipment is a lever to activate in the region. Beyond well-being for oneself, this unifying project that is Sport-Health extends to sustainable sport to promote the reuse of sports equipment. It represents an opportunity to extend the territorial network across the territory by creating strong partnerships between stakeholders in the ESS, the circular economy, the sports movement, community life and solidarity. HEXECO provides a local and supportive solution to make sport accessible to all and more respectful of the environment. Convinced that sport has a role to play in the ecological transition, HexEco is a pivot between sporting practice and environmental and societal issues. To support the ecological transition in the sports ecosystem, HexEco relies on Respect, Solidarity, Inclusion and Conviviality in order to promote a common vision and build a desirable future.
