About This Cause

AKUU is a Franco-Peruvian association, established in 2016, dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity and sustainable management of natural resources, with a primary focus on the Amazon Rainforest. This tropical forest, playing a crucial role in global climate regulation, harbors unparalleled biodiversity. The gradual disappearance of this ecosystem would not only catalyze a humanitarian crisis of unprecedented scale in Latin America but also result in the irreversible loss of invaluable scientific and cultural knowledge. To combat this destruction, the organization operates in the Amazon, conducting awareness missions in various villages and the home countries of its volunteers. In Peru, AKUU operates around the villages of Puerto-Miguel and Bagazan, both located near the Pacaya Samiria Reserve (the second-largest natural reserve in the Amazon). The association firmly believes that local populations are best positioned to protect this life reserve, but they are threatened by the degradation of their environment and, consequently, their living conditions. Preservation efforts are implemented in collaboration with the local communities. In addition to its work in Peru, the association also conducts awareness campaigns in the countries of its volunteers. The goal is to shift attitudes towards a collective awareness of climate and societal issues. The name AKUU translates to "join us," and it is not anthropocentric; it encompasses all living beings, addressing both fauna and flora, as well as humans.
