Mission Statement
Wilderness International is a non-profit organization based in Canada, Peru and Germany. We purchase ecologically intact and acutely threatened wilderness areas, legally secure with land title, and protect them for all future. By 2050, we aim to protect the last 2.8% of our planet's intact land habitats. Donations refinance the purchases and at the same time finance the long-term protection of the areas as well as environmental education projects and research on carbon storage and biodiversity.
About This Cause
Primary rainforests are home to huge biodiversity and are therefore important for the conservation of biodiversity. They are also our most important allies for a healthy climate: Intact forests provide us with clean air and clear water. They ensure a cool microclimate and last but not least, offer us space for adventure and recreation. Once destroyed, they are irretrievably lost. During our fleeting human lives, we can only protect a tree in the short term. Therefore, with our organization in form of a foundation, we want to create structures that guarantee the protection of these ancient beings for generations to come - regardless of sale, inheritance or political changes. We are also committed to education, science and research related to these topics. We actively promote the dialogue as well as cultural exchange and knowledge transfer between all people and institutions that possess knowledge of wilderness areas and those that want to protect them. For this, we involve the local population and institutions of the endangered areas. We strive to inspire young people and to provide them with the opportunity to confront and manage environmental threats, inspiring others in turn. We endeavor to inspire an appreciation for untouched environments and to provide education on the potential of these fragile ecosystems, using both direct experience and innovative technologies. You receive a personalized certificate with an aerial photograph and geocoordinates. This allows you to see exactly which piece of forest we protect with your donation.
