Mission Statement
We believe that no family living with domestic violence should feel alone - without a safe harbor - without HOPE! Our National Line for Children SOS 1056 was created to give families immediate support in a time of crisis. We also designed and launched multiple helplines for missing children, adults, national amber alerts and a “search and rescue team for missing children”. And, lastly, we are committed to end child poverty by providing community homes, medical intervention, and social support that enables a child to prosper. Vision Our vision is to enrich the lives of children and families in Greece and to empower other countries with our shared vision - “enriching the lives of children and families to work together and transform the world with empathy and compassion”. We believe it is our responsibility as citizens of Greece to ensure that every child has a home and the sustenance to live a healthy life with a SMILE! We will focus on providing safe communities throughout Greece where children can realize their full potential. In this way, their lives will be enriched, and in turn bring future social prosperity to all in Greece. “The Smile of the Child” at a glance A national organization operating all over Greece, that Operates 24 hours a day and 365 days a year Stands by every child Provides its services free-of-charge Sets the entire spectrum of its services and infrastructure at the disposal of public actors and agencies Certified from the Hellenic Ministry of Labor for the provision of 1st, 2nd and 3rd level of social care services Official partner of the European Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) in order to provide humanitarian support to migrants & refugees in Greece Empowered by 470 employees and 6.000 active registered volunteers Services Prevention: The preventative services support all children Intervention: The intervention services focus in the 4 Pillars of Action with specialized professionals and trained volunteers standing next to children victims of Violence Missing children children with a Health problem children living in or threatened by Poverty Therapy: The therapeutic services support children victims of violence and Children with health problems Operations National Helpline for Children SOS 1056 & Chat 1056 European Hotline for Missing Children 116000 European Helpline for Children and Adolescents 116111 National Hotline for Missing Adults 1017 Activates and coordinates Amber Alert Hellas and Missing Alert Hellas 6 Call Centers across Greece interconnected as one Search and Rescue Team “Thanassis Makris”, a unique & specialized volunteer group for the search & rescue of missing children Mobile Operational Unit for the emergency cases of Missing Children 12 Centers for Direct Social Intervention nationwide 8 Homes where hundreds of our children are raised 3 Daycare Homes for families with children in crisis “The House of the Child”, the only Day Center in Greece that provides therapy to children victims of violence “ODYSSEAS”, the 1st Mobile Lab of Information, Education and Technology in Greece, which also serves as a Mobile Command Center in emergency situations “Smile Academy of Education & Training”, an Academy operating both in person and virtually, which aims to develop skills, abilities, life attitudes and habits of young and old. 5 Mobile Units of Preventive Medicine, including the two Mobile Multi-medical Units “Hippocrates” and “Asklipios” for the provision of preventative medicals exams to children 7 Mobile Medical Units of Intensive Care for newborns and children based in Athens, Thessaloniki, Mytilini (Lesvos), Heraklion and Chania (Crete). Mobile Medical Pediatric Units for the Care of Children at Home in Athens and Thessaloniki 2 Social Polyclinics for Children 15 Support Centers for Families with Children across Greece National Observatory for Child Well-being 2 Logistics Centers at the Central Market and Fishery Organization (OKAA) in Athens and in the Attica Region located at Nea Makri A fleet of over 100 specialized vehicles for the immediate handling and coverage of each and every need of a child in Greece In 2023 “The Smile of the Child” supported 91.366 children and their families. In 27 years of action "The Smile of the Child" supported 2.000.000 children and their families.
