About This Cause

The Hellenic Red Cross was founded on 10 June 1877, at the initiative of Queen Olga. Since its establishment, it has been recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross and today it is part of the "Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement" family. The Hellenic Red Cross is the largest non-governmental organization in Greece with a complex project based on voluntary action and immediate response from citizens. It is mobilized to always aim at relieving human pain in times of war and peace, supporting injured, sick, refugees, elderly people, people with financial difficulties, and individuals from every vulnerable group of the population. HRC action has been linked to vigilance, solidarity and sympathy and is synonymous with non-charity and selflessness. The main aims and objectives of HRC are: - In time of war: assistance and assistance in the work of the Military Health Service, nursing care for injured and sick, as well as the protection of prisoners, the civilian population and the victims of war. - In peacetime: assistance and support to the victims of natural disasters and epidemics, as well as the autonomous or in cooperation with the State and social actors, humanitarian activity. From 1877 until now, the Hellenic Red Cross continues unceasingly to carry out its humanitarian work by taking care of the weakest population groups in the country. In cooperation with other institutions, both state and non-governmental, the Hellenic Red Cross is at the side of any person, family or group that is facing difficulties without putting a racial, national or economic situation on its own. At the same time, whenever and whenever there is a need abroad, the Hellenic Red Cross is activated in cooperation with the National Societies of other countries to send international assistance With deep humanitarian ideals and a sense of responsibility, the Hellenic Red Cross was and is present in the most important historical events of Greece and internationally and continues to perform the complex humanitarian work always aimed at man and always with respect for human rights and the International Humanitarian Law.
