Mission Statement

The Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF was founded in 1986. As one of the 36 national committees for UNICEF, we organise fundraising and advocacy activities to provide financial support for UNICEF’s programmes across over 190 countries and territories to help children survive and thrive. We aim to arouse public awareness of the plight of children in developing countries and of the need to champion children’s rights. We also organise programmes to encourage youth participation in voluntary services.

About This Cause

UNICEF, United Nations Children's Fund, is the world's leading UN organisation working specifically for children to help children survive and thrive, from early childhood through adolescence. Since our establishment in 1946, we have been working with other UN agencies, governments and NGOs to ensure children's rights in survival, development, protection and participation. UNICEF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1965 for its efforts and contributions to children worldwide. The world’s largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS, providing emergency relief and run long-term development programmes. Over 86 per cent of our staff works in the field and more than 90 per cent donations are spent on UNICEF's field programmes. As UNICEF’s work is not funded from the UN budget, we entirely rely on generous donations from voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments, and rely on people like you to help build a world fit for children.
