Mission Statement
Krishnan’s Educational Trust, through the Krishnan's Centre for Special Needs, is a non-profit institution committed to transforming the lives of children with special needs. We believe that every child, regardless of their abilities or challenges, has the right to learn, grow, and thrive in an environment that respects their individuality, nurtures their potential, and prepares them for a life of dignity and independence. Founded over a decade ago, our center has become a trusted haven for families seeking support for children with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, learning disorders, and multiple disabilities. With compassion at the heart of everything we do, we offer a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of each child. These include early intervention, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, behavioral modification therapy, sensory integration therapy, and essential life skills training. Each of our programs is outcome-driven and designed to promote holistic development—addressing cognitive, emotional, physical, and social dimensions of a child’s well-being. Our mission is grounded in the belief that empowerment begins with understanding. About This Cause
Krishnan’s Educational Trust, founded in 2012, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care, development, and empowerment of children with special needs. Located in Bangalore, India, the Trust was established by Sindhu Sundar, a trained rehabilitation psychologist whose early career in Oman and India shaped her vision for an institution that goes beyond conventional education. Through her clinical work with children with autism, intellectual disabilities, and other developmental challenges, she came to understand that true growth for these children required more than therapy delivered in sterile hospital environments. It required an environment that nurtured, accepted, and celebrated them, an environment that functioned like a school, but with the structure and sensitivity necessary to support their unique journeys. This understanding became the foundation of Krishnan’s Centre for Special Needs and Rehabilitation, a day school that today serves as a vibrant and transformative space for over a hundred students. At Krishnan’s, education is deeply personal. The Trust’s model is rooted in the belief that no two children are the same and that learning must be tailored to each child’s abilities, needs, and pace. Every student who enters the center begins with the creation of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), a carefully designed document that maps out therapeutic and educational goals. These plans are developed collaboratively by a team of special educators and therapists who assess each child’s strengths and areas of need across a wide spectrum of development, academic, emotional, sensory, behavioral, and motor skills. With the IEP as a guiding framework, children are taught using adaptive and specialized teaching methods that accommodate various learning styles and sensory processing profiles. Krishnan’s Educational Trust integrates academic instruction with therapeutic intervention throughout the school day. The center is affiliated with the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), enabling children to pursue formal education in a flexible and accommodating format. Students attend classes in small groups, and the school schedule is structured so that children rotate between academic sessions and therapy sessions without disrupting the flow of their learning. One-on-one therapy is a cornerstone of the approach, with therapists working closely with students in areas such as speech and language development, occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavioral modification, fine and gross motor skills, and sensory integration. Therapy sessions are not isolated events, they are woven into the rhythm of the day, allowing students to internalize what they learn and practice it in real time. The use of sensory integration tools and individualized therapeutic equipment plays a vital role in the effectiveness of Krishnan’s interventions. Classrooms and therapy rooms are equipped to support children with diverse sensory needs, ensuring they have access to an environment that is both stimulating and soothing. These tools are deployed strategically to help children regulate their emotions, increase focus, and build physical coordination. The synergy between therapeutic and academic support has enabled children at Krishnan’s to not only meet educational milestones but also gain critical life skills and self-confidence. The impact of this integrated model is clearly reflected in the lives of the children and families it serves. Since its inception, Krishnan’s Educational Trust has supported more than 300 children. Today, over 100 students are actively enrolled, each progressing along a tailored path toward greater independence. One of the most powerful indicators of success is the reintegration of students into mainstream educational environments. To date, 30 to 40 children who began their journey at Krishnan’s have transitioned successfully into regular schools. These milestones are not just academic; they are life-affirming transformations that validate the Trust’s belief in the potential of every child. This work would not be possible without the dedicated team behind the scenes. Krishnan’s employs 24 staff members, including special educators, assistant teachers, specialized therapists, and support staff such as cleaners and drivers. Each member of the team is trained not only in their technical discipline but also in compassion, patience, and cultural sensitivity. The leadership team brings together a wealth of experience and vision. Sindhu Sundar continues to serve as the Founder Director and Chairman, managing both the therapeutic and educational dimensions of the Trust. She is supported by Secretary Aliyath Pradeep Kumar, who oversees organizational operations and external relations, financial planning, outreach initiatives, and the coordination of events and awareness programs. At Krishnan’s, the role of the family is deeply respected. The Trust recognizes that lasting progress requires the participation and empowerment of parents and caregivers. To this end, the organization conducts periodic training sessions, workshops, and expert-led talks for families and community members. These sessions offer guidance, build awareness, and provide a platform for shared learning. The Trust also organizes inclusive community events such as Annual Day celebrations and walkathons that encourage children to participate, showcase their talents, and build a sense of belonging. These events play a crucial role in dismantling societal barriers and fostering a culture of inclusion. Beyond education and therapy, Krishnan’s Educational Trust operates with a deep moral and social commitment to equity. The center serves many children from financially challenged backgrounds, including those from single-parent families and orphanages. Recognizing the high costs often associated with quality special education and therapy, the Trust actively supports these families by financing services for those who cannot afford them. Philanthropic donations and fundraising efforts are channeled directly into sponsoring therapies, enhancing infrastructure, purchasing essential equipment, and organizing developmental and awareness programs. The Trust ensures that no child is denied care due to economic constraints, and that every contribution, whether financial or voluntary, goes directly toward improving a child’s quality of life. Looking ahead, Krishnan’s Educational Trust remains committed to reaching more children and deepening its impact. While there are no immediate expansion projects underway, the vision remains clear: to serve more families, offer even better facilities, and continue evolving in line with global best practices in special education. The Trust is driven by a quiet but powerful ambition, not for accolades or recognition, but for transformation in the lives of children who are too often overlooked.
