About This Cause
HUMANKIND, LIGHTING UP THE FUTURE: Humankind is an Ahmedabad-based voluntary organisation dedicated to championing Child Rights, with a specific focus on the Right to Development. Our core mission revolves around providing crucial support to underprivileged children, ensuring their regular attendance at schools, and offering additional assistance beyond regular school hours. We also educate children on important issues relating to health, hygiene, environment, and sanitation. In addition to our core commitment to school-based support, Humankind extends guidance for higher studies and vocational training to youth who have completed their schooling, as well as adults within the community. Through our Saksham project, we provide vocational training, initially concentrating on tailoring and beauty parlour skills at our center in Ramnagar, Sabarmati. Keeping pace with changing times , students also receive training in basic computer skills and internet safety. Our Poshan project is specifically dedicated to providing support in terms of nutrition and hygiene education to adolescent girls, pregnant women, and senior citizens. Furthermore, under our Anjali project, we offer financial assistance for education to underprivileged single-parent and orphaned children. We also prioritize the dissemination of awareness among students and their parents regarding critical issues such as child abuse, safety, sexual harassment in the workplace, and financial literacy. At Humankind, our commitment lies in fostering a supportive and well-informed community for the holistic development of all individuals and thereby creating an inclusive society. HOW THE JOURNEY STARTED: In 2009, Humankind commenced its modest journey with just five students from a Municipal school in Sabarmati, Ahmedabad. Initially, these children took part in both indoor and outdoor games and sports on Sundays within the school premises. As years passed by, we took a leap of faith as an organization. The students received education on the importance of personal hygiene, covering aspects like regular bathing, clothes washing, nail trimming, and maintaining tidy hair. With an increasing number of children, the encouragement to study under the guidance of Humankind volunteers was introduced, with participation in games and sports serving as an incentive. After operating within the school premises for four years, Humankind's dedication caught the attention of a real estate developer in 2013. Generously, he provided the current premises at Nanakram Super Market, Ramnagar, Sabarmati, for Humankind to conduct its activities. Through donations from concerned citizens, businesses, and corporate entities, Humankind has successfully furnished the premises with essential resources, including books, school bags, kits, teaching and learning aids, computers, audiovisual equipment, furniture, and sewing machines. Currently, approximately 150 students are enrolled with Humankind. They actively participate in sessions from Monday to Friday between 4 pm to 7 pm, adjusting to their respective school schedules. Furthermore, they engage in recreational activities on Sundays from 9 am to 12 noon. WHO MAKE IT HAPPEN: We believe in the beautiful Art of Giving and Receiving. The driving force behind Humankind's philosophy is a dedicated team of student volunteers who contribute their efforts on an honorary basis. These volunteers, who were once beneficiaries of Humankind's services and have successfully graduated from school, continue their engagement as they progress to grades 9 and 10. During this transition, they participate in regular coaching classes, with a substantial portion of the fees covered by Humankind. For those with a single parent, the organization covers the entire fee. Notably, all beneficiary students are expected to allocate 2 hours of voluntary service to Humankind for 6 days a week. This involvement includes assisting younger children from their own community, thereby establishing volunteering as a sustainable and organic model. The operational and capital expenses of Humankind are sustained through the generosity of donations from concerned citizens, businesses, and corporate entities. This support ensures the continuity and success of Humankind's programs, allowing the organisation to make a meaningful impact on the lives of underprivileged children and the community as a whole. OUR MISSION: To help a child in her/his learning and unlearning process so that she/he may grow into a confident, compassionate, responsible and sensitive citizen with a world view devoid of gender, caste, religious, linguistic or regional biases. OUR VISION: The aim is for Humankind to transform into an exemplary voluntary organisation, serving as a model for others, particularly in the context of supporting and empowering underprivileged children. This evolution is envisioned to be sustained by a collaborative effort involving volunteers from the community and resourceful segments of society, facilitated by the generous contributions of donors. The goal is to establish a self-sustaining and replicable framework that not only uplifts underprivileged children but also inspires similar initiatives across different communities.
