About This Cause

Sneh Samridhi Mandal was established in 1992 in Sangameshwar taluka of Ratnagiri district of Konkan division based on the strong commitment of a husband and wife. Changes were required in the status of women in rural areas, rural problems and available resources. Discussions began to find the solution to make this happen in reality and it led to the formation of the Sneh Samridhi Sanstha. The journey of the organization started with the women who were always together. Konkan region is blessed with natural beauty, abundant rainfall, green forests, seasonal fruits such as mango, cashew, kokum, jackfruit, coconut, betel nut, and beaches, mountains and forts. But, for many years, the people who depended on money orders from Mumbai, only grew enough to feed their families. Agriculture was never thought of as a profession. Cultivation has been going on till date as it is part of our culture. But now that too is going away. The turban of Mumbai is huge. So, running to Mumbai for securing jobs, adopting good lifestyle is commonly seen among youths. There is no tradition of industry in Konkan. There is no opportunity for big industry. Very few people believe that agriculture is a profession. People are very loving, hospitable, and have an affinity for the soil wherever they go. Bringing about a change in Konkan, which has had this picture till now, is a tremendous difficult. Sneh Samriddhi Mandal, an organization, started organizing some programs for local residents. Today, many women are associated with the organization in different ways. Women's groups, savings groups, industry groups, Aadhaar groups and federations have been formed for women. Women who were shy to reveal their identity are now speaking on the big stage. Today, women who did not come to drawing room to serve tea to unknown guests at their home are serving through their own catering business, small roadside shop or big marriage halls. A woman, who never used to come forward to take a loan from anyone, is today taking a loan of lakhs of rupees for her family. She gets profit from it. It means that women who used to participate only in the family function, today started going not only to Gram Panchayat, Bank, Panchayat Samiti, Taluka, District, but anywhere in Maharashtra. This journey is for at least last 30 years for any area be it exhibition, training, representation. Women have worked hard to achieve this. In this journey, government institutions, banks, various non-governmental institutions, organizations offering financial cooperation, individuals, prominent people of the village have remarkable contribution along with us. The mission of the organization is to achieve holistic development of women. Therefore, all programs were planned focusing on all members of her household including men, young women, school students, her householders, locality and agriculture instead of a woman alone. Self-help group programs are functioning in all villages. The Federation is functioning at the Taluka level. Women were supported to work in food and fruit processing industries. A support system was built for them, such as assistance in the production and sales management. The work started by focusing on three things namely organization, enlightenment and economic development. We started moving forward by giving confidence to women and speeding up self-development. Problems at the family level started to be felt through regular contact with them, for this they started solving the problems in coordination with the counseling, guidance and service providing systems. Further, in coordination with the Women and Child Welfare Department Mumbai and State Women's Commission Mumbai the government approved taluka level counseling center. It proved to be very supportive and beneficial to many women. Financial and technical support was provided for 10 years for public awareness of Anti-Domestic Violence Act 2005 through SwissAid. Various halls were opened from agriculture and environment related programs. Helped and guided how to increase her income through backyard, organic farming, bamboo cultivation. Demonstrations were held around women's houses. Tata Trust, SwissAid also got valuable support in this. A special center was established to train the youth in the field of construction to become self-reliant and they were given special and technical training in batches of 3 months duration for 5 years continuously. They were given a chance to work in big construction sites like Mumbai, Pune. Some of them used these skills to fetch the work opportunity at local level. The organization tried to impart scientific knowledge and skills of the construction field. For this, Larsen and Toubro Charitable Trust extended financial and technical support. In this journey of the organization, it was observed that it is important to pay attention to the education. Even though education is said to be free, parents have to bear some expenses. That too is impossible. Children cannot get education due to many reasons like poverty, difficulties at home, maintenance of cattle. Girls in particular are allowed to attend educational facilities up to 10th or only nearby institutions. Some cannot afford the cost of clothes, shoes, stationery, books to go to school. Fearing that their honor will be lost, such children decide to drop out of school. Seeing this, organization started to help children from 5th standard to 15th standard with their educational expenses. This includes textbooks, fees and many other things. These efforts involve philanthropists and companies from Devrukh, Adler, Pitre Foundation. It is planned to take special training classes for personality development of children. It is planned that the students should have decision-making ability in the future, be aware of good and bad, act as a wise citizen, and try to improve the health of children, i.e. mentally, physically and emotionally. This includes family life education. Children should be empowered to think about serious issues such as violence against women, cast system, crime, so that these social problems can be reduced. This component is very useful for this. So this project is very important. Students always need someone like a guide, a friend to be with them in this journey. This means that whether it is an important decision or a problem in daily life, they will have the support of having someone with them to give them the right direction. Only parents and teachers will not be able to take care of all these responsibilities. A different system should be created for this. The organization is thinking about it. The organization is thinking of creating this support system by setting up help center, advice center, etc. In the entire journey, many individuals and organizations should be involved. Financial support is essential. At the same time, guides and activists are also needed.
